Can I use a rapid antigen test for Day 2 Day 8 testing?

Unfortunately, you can't use the rapid antigen kits as replacements for the Day 2 Day 8 tests. This is because the Day 2 & Day 8 tests are a PCR test and therefore analysed in a laboratory. The labs analyse the samples to search for the presence of new variants of the Coronavirus whereas the rapid antigen is a home-based self-test which is just testing for the presence of the known variants.

Day 2 & 8 PCR tests are required to allow you to complete the Passenger Locator Form (PLF) using a booking reference number that you can only receive when purchasing these tests. See UK Gov link for more details.

You can still the use the rapid antigen test kits for entry into the UK and for outbound travel to certain countries that accept antigen test travel certificates.

If you need to order Day 2 Day 8 tests for your arrival into the UK you can do so here. Upon ordering you will receive the booking reference number needed for the PLF.

Please note that at present we are unable to ship Day 2 Day 8 PCR tests to Northern Ireland and Scottish Highlands and Islands.
